Claire Clinton is an experienced teacher within EYFS, Primary and Secondary education.  She has over 30 years of classroom experience, and over 20 years of advisory work at a national and local level. She is now the lead director of RE Hubs - a national intiative to support high quality RE teaching in schools.

Claire did a theology degree at Durham University, before going to Cambridge University to do her PGCE in Religious Education and Drama at the Department for Education.

Claire worked as the Religious Education Advisor for Newham for six years, until April 2011. Before that Claire worked for 8 years as the Redbridge seccondary school RE consultant, as well as a consultant advisor in Essex. She now works in partnership with schools across EYFS to 6th form in Newham, Barking and Dagenham.

She has written nationally for the government, being part of teams that wrote and edited the national RE schemes of work at KS1-3, as well as working on Religious Studies criteria and specifications at GCSE and A'Level. At present she is part of the Ofsted national RE working group, as well as meeting regularly with the DfE around RE and Collective Worship.

Claire was part of a team of teachers who wrote the nationally acclaimed 'Religion in Focus' text books on Christianity, Islam and Judaism for GCSE Religious Studies.

She has worked for: the BBC on their 'Son of God', 'Paul, Mary and Moses' programmes; Christian Aid on their award winning KS3 'RE and Citizenship' pack; Harper Collins on their schools Bible; School Religion and Science Project as editior and writer of their Key Stage 3 and 4 books and packs, and frequently writes for RE Today Magazine and RE curriculum support packs.

Claire enjoys an interactive approach to learning in RE which involves the creative arts as an integral medium. She enjoys teaching, whether it is to three years olds or adults, and has many years of experience of working with schools to ensure there is progression, impact and improvements in teaching and learning.

She is qualified in Philosophy for Children (P4C), and is also experienced in 'Coaching and Mentoring' programme from the National College for School leadership. 


She is the lead director of RE Hubs UK and was part of the team who created the 'Leadership Programme', running it for five years and continues to contribute to the programme on the steering group and through mentoring participants.
